In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Tjahjanto revealed why he accepted the opportunity to direct The Beekeeper 2:

“I always felt that Adam Clay was essentially Jason Statham playing my favorite Marvel character: The Punisher. If I can’t make a Punisher film right now, I’ll turn Adam Clay into my own version of Frank Castle.”

For longtime action fans, this is massive news. Statham’s stoic performance and brutal efficiency already gave Adam Clay shades of Frank Castle in the first film. Tjahjanto intends to lean even harder into that tone for the sequel.

More Brutality, Bigger Villains

The director also teased that audiences can expect bigger and meaner villains in the sequel. Statham’s Clay will face opponents on a much larger scale, promising a level of escalation that could surpass the first film.

“I love that Adam Clay is colorful with his violence. He gets creative with how he punishes his enemies. Fans should expect even bigger villains this time.”
